1973 Archaeological Report on the Okefenokee Swamp

I obtained this forgotten report about 20 years ago then lost track of it while I was living in a tent. I found it this morning inside a office file cabinet that I used in our Virginia cheese creamery and converted it into a PDF file. Many people involved with saving the Okefenokee Swamp have tried to find a copy of the report, but current federal employees seem to not know where the original is now.

I have attached the PDF file for anyone, who is interested in the subject. Among other things, the archaeologists determined that the Okefenokee and its basin contains over a hundred Native American mounds from many eras.

  1. Pretty fascinating report, Richard. Thanks for sharing. At almost every mound were reported 7 foot tall skeletal remains. It seems to lend some historical fact to legends, that the Seminole people and perhaps their ancestors, were unusually tall.

    Very Respectfully, Zac
