Helpful Hints

(1) The image on the right is a Late Bronze Age Greek warship, such as the one used by Odysseus as he and his crew sailed for ten years in an effort to get home to Ithaca from Troy. Cargo ships would not have had the ram at the water line of the bow. (See drawing below.)

(2) The circle with an X in it on the left was the European Bronze Age glyph for gold, according to Lund University’s Department of Archaeology and Ancient Architecture.

(3) According to Wikipedia, the Greeks originally obtained most of their gold from Macedonia and Thrace, but after Greek colonies were founded in Asia Minor, the eastern shores of the Black Sea became the source for a much purer gold.

(4) On the other hand, we already know that Wikipedia is the worse possible reference to get the meanings of Native American place names or the Pre-Columbian history of the Southeastern United States. It may be the same for early Greek history.
