OMG! Hear the voice of the real Scarlett O’Hara in 1929!

Senator Rebecca Ann Latimer Felton

Virtually the entire plot of “Gone With The Wind” is based on the life of Rebecca Felton of Cartersville, GA . . . except the part about her parents being from Ireland and that she enjoyed of life-long happy marriage with the man who inspired Ashely Wilkes. Even, most of the famous quotes from the book and movie were words actually spoken by Rebecca Felton. Note that North Georgians at that time did not speak with a Southern Drawl.

Her husband, William Harrell Felton, was also the inspiration for the doctor in “Gone With The Wind.” He actually did take care of the Confederate wounded along side the railroad tracks of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. After the Civil War, he served in the House of Representatives as an independent. He was considered one of the most eloquent speakers in Congress.

I was the Architect for the restoration of the Felton House and Farm. She is sitting on the front porch of the house in my rendering above. I was also the Architect for the restoration of Corra Harris House and Farm, where author Margaret Mitchell came to know Rebecca.
