Video – The Hjortspringer Boat

On February 17, 2017 I looked on my computer monitor at my high resolution photos of the Tugaloo Petroglyphs at Traveler’s Rest State Historic Site and was shocked to see a hjortspringer boat. Here was absolute proof that Bronze Age Scandinavians had visited the Gold Belt in the mountains of Northeast Georgia.

For unknown reasons, I have never forgotten the appearance and name of this unique ancient boat after seeing a reconstruction of one in the Landskrona, Sweden City Museum. Other petroglyphs here in Northeast Georgia are only typical of petroglyphs in southern Sweden during the Bronze Age. So, it is quite possible that the people who came here came from the region around Landskrona.
