Image Above – This is me at the Gate of Labna, which is featured in this video. Life is stranger than fiction. At several sites in the northern Yucatan Peninsula I ran into a couple from Mobile, Alabama. David Schele was an architecture at the University of Alabama. Linda Schele was a Masters Level art student at the same university. I aske Linda to take a photo of me at the gate. My tour guide, Ana, had gone to the restroom.

Fifteen years later, Linda Schele would be the become the key “player” in the cracking of the Maya Writing System. The color slide that she took of me is the only photo I have of me during the fellowship. All my paper photographs were lost when, the basement of my former wife’s and my house in the Shenandoah Valley flooded.
