Smithsonian Video: Did Eurasians settle the eastern edge of North America?

Archaeologist Dennis Stanford shook up the archaeological world!

Keep an open mind! Since this documentary film and the bitter attacks on it by much of the archaeological profession, the bog burials at Windover Pond, Florida have been tested by DNA labs. Immediately, they were determined to be the oldest remains ever recovered in the Southeastern United States.

The oldest of the up-to 8,000 year-old human remains were Eurasians from Scandinavia . . . Proto-Sami. The later burials were either Proto-Sami or a mixture with people of eastern Siberian origin . . . “American Indians.” My Creek family carries those same Windover Pond DNA markers.

Those of you, who have read my online book, The Shenandoah Chronicles, may remember this scene in the opening chapters. I was at the annual Christmas Party for Smithsonian Institute Administrative Staff. A vivacious French lass, named Vivi, had prepared a cozy corner of the living room, where we could sample her expensive French wines and my gourmet goat cheeses . . . while getting to know each other with public displays of affection.

Vivi went to the Guest Bathroom to freshen up. In stalked a husky, bearded man, holding a beer mug, who plopped into Vivi’s side of the love seat. He introduced himself as an archaeologist at the Smithsonian and then proceeded to gobble up my goat cheese. That was Dennis Stanford. Life is stranger than fiction.

  1. I can’t find the whole documentaries either. You may be able to buy the DVD on Amazon Prime.

Smithsonian documentaries are now owned by Paramount. The whole videos may be on Paramount + The same thing just happened to the premier of America Unearthed. It was yanked from YouTube and Amazon Prime. Apparently it is now only available from some pay-for-view channel.

    1. Yes, I know! The first date that I had with Britt Louse Manson was at the Landskrona Stadmusiet on June 10, 1972. They had a full hjartspringerboten on exhibit, plus a sizable amount of space utilized in explaining the Scandinavian Bronze Age. I never forgot seeing the unusual boat, which was capable of navigating ocean waters.
