A big surprise . . . 4,650 miles from home

At 5:00 PM on June 5, 1972 in Landskrona, Sweden, I realized that I was going to have to cook my breakfasts & suppers for the next few months.

The supermarkets were three times the size of the largest supermarkets in the USA at that time. They looked like magical food palaces, compared to our stores. Rather than reading the price on each item, the check-out clerks utilized something out of science fiction. LASERS read some secret language on the price tag, can or box to record the price.

The bread aisle was about 200 feet long.

All the chickens came from Gainesville, Georgia, USA.

All the canned peaches came from Perry, Georgia, USA

All the peanut butter came from Cairo, Georgia, USA

Strawberry jam had the unpronounceable name of “jordgubbarssylter” but I bought them anyway.

Sunrise the next morning was at 4:30 AM so I was 3 1/2 hours early to work!
