Video – The French and Indian War from French Canadian colonists’ perspective

The peasant colonists in Nouvelle France had very different lives than the French Protestant colonists in South Carolina, Georgia, northern Virginia and eastern Maryland. Most French Huguenots were from the educated Middle Class, affluent merchants or even lower tier nobility.

Totally left out of the history textbooks on the United States and Georgia is the fact that the French and British did fight in the Southern colonies. The war’s southern theater included Georgia, the Carolinas, and Florida, with notable battles such as the Battle of the Savannah and the Battle of the Ocmulgee. These engagements were part of the same global conflict as the Mid-Atlantic and Canadian campaigns, and they reflected the British and French struggle for control of North America’s southern frontier 

French Protestants from South Carolina, Georgia and northern Virginia provided a disproportionate number of officers and sergeants in the campaigns against the Cherokee, Shawnee and French during the French and Indian War, These veterans then took a prominent role in the American Revolution. One of the best known of these French Patriots was Col. Francis Marion, but there were many more.
